Expanding Your Horizons STEM Career Discovery Day

Expanding Your Horizons is an event for middle school girls to experience and enjoy a day involved with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  Attendees will have the opportunity to meet female role models working in STEM who will showcase career options in their fields. Many topics in STEM will be explored, including wildlife, forensic science, astronomy, geology, public health, and chemistry. Girls will participate in hands-on activities that may include performing DNA fingerprinting, learning about the stars, creating a short video and working with goo. A variety of topics will be presented, and each student will take part in three workshops based on her interests.  Registration is done online and will open in August, but to get more information in the meantime, please visit http://EYH.STEMatSU.org/.

CANCELLED–Looking To The Stars

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED 
Join us for an evening of exploring the stars and the galaxies above.  The evening will start off with a brief interactive session with the girls in which they get a little information about our galaxy and all of the stars, planets, and galactic “bits” that are part of the place we call home.  Afterwards, the girls will get to do some actual stargazing and might even get to make their own take-home star-gazing instrument!

American Girl Scout Day Camp Session 2

American Girl Scout Camp 2 Summer Day Camp is a celebration in being an American Girl Scout!  Each day focuses on the life and times of a different American Girl doll.

Who: Registered Girl Scouts grades K-5

Where:  New Hope Lutheran Church  8575 Guilford Road, Columbia MD 21046. Located right off Route 32 and Route 29 and minutes from Route 95.

Time: 8:30 am ­ 4:15 pm (Monday ­ Friday)

Cost:  $160; Early bird registrations received by May 1 receive a 10% discount.

American Girl Scout Day Camp

Celebrate being an “American Girl” Scout and explore history and heritage with your favorite dolls at this 5-day camp.

Who: Registered Girl Scouts grades K-5

Where: Catonsville United Methodist Church, 6 Melvin Ave., Catonsville, MD 21228

Resident Camp – Session 8

Grades 2-3

It’s all about the bling at conowingo! Add sparkle and glitz to everything you touch! Use beads, ribbons, and rhinestones to make beautiful jewelry. Have fun when you create a sparkling mosaic or glitter modge podge collage! Make edible glitter and decorate a yummy sweet treat. In between all that glitterfying, enjoy other camp activities too. Grab your sparkly new camp friends and have fun!

Grades 4-5

Ikayak
Do you love water sports and great scenery? If so, this is the perfect week for you! You will start your week’s adventure by learning all the basics of kayaking on flat water, performing rescue and safety techniques and practicing paddle strokes. Then, you will go off camp to enjoy the panoramic views as you paddle and explore local waterways. When your arms need a rest, you can relax and participate in other camp activities such as arts and crafts and swimming.

Junior jam
This session is jam packed with a bit of everything for the first-time camper! Get creative with arts and crafts, spend a session canoeing, learn about nature, get on a horse and go on a corral ride, challenge yourself to get up the rock wall and meet new friends while roasting s ‘mores around the camp fire. This is a great introduction for new campers. (horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. If this occurs, other activities will be offered during that time.)

Just add water!
You and your new mermaid friends will do everything water this week! Go on a creek hike and explore the creatures that swim through conowingo. Spend extra time in the pool, play water games, choose between a polar bear or twilight swim, and paddle around the conowingo lagoon during a canoe session. When you feel waterlogged, dry off and spend some time with arts and crafts, nature activities, solving challenges on the ropes course and more.

Grades 6-8

Guppy gulch: slumber party edition – THIS SECTION IS FULL
Do you love water and adventure? Come to camp to meet your guppy gulch crew before heading out to delta, pa for two full days and one overnight of explosive watery fun! Enjoy spending your days at the gulch trying extreme water activities like riding the kayak luge, snorkeling with aquatic life, ziplining into the beautiful quarry water, climbing the floating wall and tons more. Then, spend your night at the gulch relaxing with your group and preparing for the next day’s gulch adventures. When your trip is over, come back to conowingo and enjoy all of your favorite camp activities too!

Best-o-wingo
Do you love everything at conowingo and want to do it all? Come develop your skills in all specialty areas of camp! Take some trips to the stables for a corral ride. Spend time learning the basics of archery and the fundamentals of canoeing. Challenge yourself by hanging 40 feet in the air on the flying squirrel and practice your rock climbing skills on the wall. And, don’t forget the swimming: enjoy plenty of time in the water. There will still be time to enjoy all the other traditional camp activities. If you’re the active outdoor type, this is the one for you! (horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. If this occurs, other activities will be offered during that time.)

Spa-tastic!
Come to conowingo and get away from it all—relax and chill while learning tips and techniques for taking care of yourself. You will be able to pamper yourself this week by turning your unit into a camp spa. Relax with soothing music, learn about healthy eating, make natural beauty products, and enjoy stress-less activities like floating in the pool, hula hooping and yoga. You will also be able to spend time enjoying regular camp activities like crafts, nature hikes and campfires. Come chill with us. You will work on the eating for beauty badge.
