Girl Scout Marsh Ecology Paddle

Canoe around Otter Point Creek while we take in the beauty of the marsh and learn about what makes this area so unique. Bring lunch or a snack to enjoy as we stop along the way.   *Each boat will need an adult chaperone, and the Estuary will provide two. PDF’s will be provided by the Estuary Center. For this event, participants’ swimming abilities are classified as “non-swimmer’s” to meet Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoint standards for canoeing.

Teen Babysitter Training

Real Life CPR will share everything a babysitter needs to know. Each girl will earn her baby-sitting certificate and be ready to be a skilled babysitter. Girls are required to be at least 11 years old and registered with GSCM in order take this course.

Daisy Journey Event: Between Earth and Sky

Work on the Daisy Journey: Between Earth and Sky! Head cross-country to learn about natural treasures. Investigate the Girl Scout law, the natural world, flowers and plants. Crafts and snacks are provided. Girls will receive the Journey award at the end of the event.

Girl Scouts Explore Goddard (STEM)

Join the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and Girl Scouts of Nation’s Capital for the ultimate Girl Scout experience at Explore Goddard! NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md opens its doors to the public for this free fun-filled day of activities, hands-on demonstrations, exhibits, entertainment and food. Girl Scouts from GSCM and GSCNC and their families will enjoy the Girl Scout Experience with a special area, activities, and a patch designed just for Girl Scouts! Explore NASA missions. Engage NASA scientists and engineers. Experience the extraordinary at NASA Goddard!   While Explore Goddard is free and open to the public, participation in the Girl Scout Experience at Explore Goddard requires pre-registration with GSCM. Tag-alongs welcome, but please no drop offs. Cost of event covers light refreshments and fun patch

2015-2016 Cookie Rally

The Cookie Rally helps girls become engaged and excited to participate in the annual Cookie Sale Program. It allows girls to learn new tips and techniques as well as practice their cookie selling skills. The Rally also helps adults become familiar with the program aspects of the cookie sell so that they can deliver the program at the troop level. Girls will learn and practice the 5 Skills gained from Girl Scout Cookie Sale participation.

A Cookie Rally Patch will be given to each girl in attendance. Adults will receive GSUSA’s Financial Literacy Booklet and other Cookie Sale resources to make the program a success for girls.

Computers are a part of our everyday life; learn a thing or two about cyberspace and technology during one of these workshops! Join fellow tech savvy girls from the University of Maryland Center for Women in Computing to make video games using Scratch, explore virtual reality, and learn about cybersecurity and staying safe online. Learn to use computers in a whole new way and become a tech savvy girl too!

Who: Girl Scout Juniors – Ambassadors

When: Session 1: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Topic: Program with Scratch -Learn the basics of computer programing using Scratch to create interactive games

Nature Quest Canoeing – Robert E. Lee Park

Rangers and participants will search for the Nature Quest marker while also enjoying time on the lake looking for wildlife such as turtles, beavers, eagles, and many others. A limited number of canoes will be available.

Behind the Scenes at Six Flags!

Get a behind the scenes tour of Six Flags America’s most popular show, one-on-one training from award winning performers and have the opportunity to be picked from the audience for a “hands-on” experience. Girl Scouts and guests will have admission to Six Flags America for the remainder of the day with an all-you-can-eat buffet.   This is NOT a drop off event. All girls must be accompanied by an adult.   Registration Opens: 10:00am. Early Entry for Girl Scouts and Family ONLY: 10:45 am. Show Tour/Behind the Scenes: 11:00am-12:00pm. Park Hours: 12:00pm-10:00pm Catered Meal: 1pm-2pm   Please note, parking at Six Flags America is $20 and will have to be paid on site.

Canoe and Kayak Certification Training – Flat Water

This course is designed as a short program emphasizing entry level paddling skills and rescue techniques for individuals desiring an opportunity to take a group out on flat water. You will learn canoe and kayak strokes to effectively navigate on the water. Plus, you will learn and practice rescue techniques that will help you feel confident in an emergency situation. No previous kayak or canoe experience is required. Successful completion of the course will result in a American Canoe Association Participation Card.   NOTE: Participation in the program does not guarantee certification card. Pre–class assignments may be required.
