Looking To The Stars

Join us for an evening of exploring the stars and the galaxies above.  The evening will start off with a brief interactive session with the girls in which they get a little information about our galaxy and all of the stars, planets, and galactic “bits” that are part of the place we call home.  Afterwards, the girls will get to do some actual stargazing and might even get to make their own take-home star-gazing instrument!

Expanding Your Horizons STEM Career Discovery Day

Expanding Your Horizons is an event for middle school girls to experience and enjoy a day involved with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  Attendees will have the opportunity to meet female role models working in STEM who will showcase career options in their fields. Many topics in STEM will be explored, including wildlife, forensic science, astronomy, geology, public health, and chemistry. Girls will participate in hands-on activities that may include performing DNA fingerprinting, learning about the stars, creating a short video and working with goo. A variety of topics will be presented, and each student will take part in three workshops based on her interests.  Registration is done online and will open in August, but to get more information in the meantime, please visit http://EYH.STEMatSU.org/.

STEM is Fun! Training

The “STEM is Fun” series is a program that has been very successful with our in-school participants and is now being made available for our Daisy and Brownie troops as well.  The program offers hands-on programs to inspire girls in science and engineering.  Throughout the eight pre-designed sessions, girls will learn about the unique world of butterflies, the protection of our planet, beginning financial skills, and even how to become a young engineer, all while learning about STEM role models and incorporating the Girl Scout Leadership experience.

This training is for  adult volunteers and troop leaders for Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies

Girls Go Techbridge Training

This is a training session for leaders and volunteers that are interested in working on STEM or, specifically, our Girls Go Techbridge program.  Leaders and volunteers will learn about the basic principles involved in presenting the Techbridge materials such as TECH Brainstorming, the Engineering Process, and how to guide girls into making their own discoveries.  Leaders will also get a chance to look through and explore the materials that will be in each of the five different program bins.  Volunteers will also be trained in the basics of STEM and how to guide girls through activities by participating in various projects themselves.

This training is for adult volunteers and troop leaders for Girl Scout Juniors through Ambassadors

Cost: FREE!

This is a training session for leaders, volunteers, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professionals that are interested in volunteering with girls at STEM specific events.  Volunteers will learn about the basic principles involved in several of our different programs and how they can help inspire girls to become more interested in STEM fields for their future.  Volunteers will also be trained in the basics of STEM and how to guide girls through activities by actually participating in various projects themselves while at the training.
